I just got back from Veloswap in Denver and I'm feeling pretty good about our decision to make it out there this year. We partnered up with one of our local dealers, The Urban Cyclist , and set up shop in their booth at the show. Veloswap is a huge bike sale that takes place every year and there are tons of vendors and people selling things and thousands of shoppers that come by to take advantage of some end of season deals. We've always wanted to go to Veloswap and when we heard that the guys at The Urban Cyclist were going to have a booth at the show we jumped at the chance to be a part of it. The show was a great success for us but an even greater success for the guys at The Urban Cyclist....
Veloswap is a gigantic bike swap/sale that takes place every fall in Denver where everyone from bike shops to guys with a garage full of gear show up to sell things. At Veloswap you can find everything from used long travel mountain bikes to vintage road bikes that have been collecting dust in someone's garage for decades. We've never been there before but it's sort of legendary for the amount of people that come to buy stuff and the number of booth of sellers...
Sometimes when I find myself bored at night I realize I've just been wasting precious moments of my life flipping through random Facebook posts. Last night however, that mindless post flipping paid off. Don't ask me how but somehow I ended up on an old blog called The Leather Craftsman . The Leather Craftsman hasn't been updated since 2012 but it's pages contain some excellent historical insight into Milwaukee from the perspective of a local leather craftsman and former business owner by the name of Bill Odbert...
Back in September we made our annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas for Interbike. For those of you that don't know Interbike is the annual trade show for the US bike industry and is attended by bike shops from all over the US and even some international markets. This is our sixth year at the show and every year we leave exhausted from all the hard work but with our batteries fully re-charged from all the good bike vibes at the show. Some people hate the fact that Interbike is in Vegas....
When we first launched the Eastside in April 2013 our goal was to introduce a high quality bike built around a solid 4130 chromoly steel frameset that was finished off with great parts. This wasn't just going to be just another cheap fixie. There were and are a ton of cheap bikes on the market which is great for people looking for an entry level fixed gear bike, but often times the quality of the frames and builds are lacking. It's actually pretty amazing when you do a bit of research on the web or talk to shops that sell these bikes. The other day we were actually talking with one of the bike shops we work with and they told us a story about a bike they got from one of the popular fixie brands on the market today....
The latest issue of Urban Velo just came out and as always we have an ad running in the pages of this fine magazine. For the latest issue we put in a teaser add about our new Six Fyx conversion kit that will be on the market in early December. The whole point of the 6 Fyx isn't to "fix" anything. It's simply a way to turn your beloved track frame into a simple 6 speed city bike. Whether your knees are hurting you from riding fixed for too long or you're tired of getting out the saddle to make it up the hills in town, the Six Fyx conversion kit lets you easily add 6 gears to your existing frame. Rather than going out and buying an entirely new geared bike, this quick kit let's you add our proprietary 120mm spaced hub that includes a 6 speed cassette. Available as a kit with the hub/parts or the complete wheel/parts, the Six Fyx is a great way to for you to keep that old trusty track frame running for years to come...
About a year ago we introduced our Tannery Collection which is a line of made in Milwaukee leather bicycle and lifestyle accessories. What started out as a side project and a way for us to prove that we could make a well made and affordable product here in Milwaukee has turned into a complete collection of leather goods ranging from our ever popular leather Six Pack Caddy to our newly introduced leather Yoga Mat Strap.
Because the entire production and assembly of our leather goods is done right here in our Milwaukee workshop we...
Steelcase's motto is simple; love how you work, and for a company that has been influencing the way people work for over 100 years, it's clear they enjoy theirs! We recently had the opportunity to put our love for building custom bikes in action for the crew that works at the Steelcase Portland office.
We recently had the opportunity to build up a custom bike for our friends here in Milwaukee at Colectivo Coffee. We covered the full build in an earlier blog post that you can read here.... For the build we used our Quiver frameset and mostly Fyxation parts but we did reach out to another local company here in the Midwest for one of the finishing touches - the Handsome Cycles Mud Butler Fender. Handsome Cycles is a small rider owned bike...
