Over the last few years there has been a surge in companies coming out with fat bikes due their growing popularity and well to be honest, because they're a ton of fun to ride. One of the biggest challenges fat bike manufacturers and dealers over the past few years have faced has been the lack of options when it comes to parts for fat bikes. Especially when it comes to tires. Surly was one of the first companies to come out with decent fat bike tires followed by their sister company 45 NRTH. Recently however, it seems that ever tire manufacturer is getting on board and that is a good thing because there will be a ton more options and price points available for the fat bike market. Here is a quick Tech Note and review from Joel here at Fyxation regarding the new Panaracer Fat B Nimble fat bike tire...
It's been about a year since we launched our Tannery Collection, which is our made in Milwaukee line of leather goods and accessories. Working with leather has been a great experience for us for a number of reasons but most importantly because we've been able to manufacture all these items right here in Milwaukee. These diverse products that range from a leather bicycle beer carrier to our stitched iPad and iMac sleeves and are all built and assembled in our small leather workshop.
It's always been our vision to expand on our leather offering by making more cycling specific leather products and we're pleased to introduce our latest creation. While not made here in Milwaukee, the level of craftsmanship and attention to detail is no different than what we introduced with the Tannery Collection....
2014 has come to a close and it was another great year for the crew here at Fyxation. We have a lot of big things in the works for 2015 and we can't wait to show you what we've been up to.
To kick the new year off right we're pleased to introduce you to a few new color options for some of our more popular items. Our Gates Pedal Straps are now available in a vibrant green, orange and red trim to match an even great number of pedals. These super durable pedal straps now come in 6 colors and are a great alternative to traditional toe clips and pedal straps. In addition to getting 3 new color options for 2015, we've reduced the cost of our made in Milwaukee pedals to only $36.95!
I've been on a quest to get a custom bike built for the last two years and I'm proud to say my project is finally complete. Why did it take me two years? It wasn't the budget or my interest in getting the bike built. For me it was all about finding the right builder to help me complete my vision. The builder had to be one that was more than just an accomplished frame builder. They had to be one that I could connect with. That truly understood what I was trying to accomplish. In my opinion, getting a custom bike built is as much about the person building the bike as it is the finished product....
After 45 issues the 2 man crew over at Urban Velo has decided to call it quits and they just released their final issue a few days back. It must have been a tough decision to close up shop when they've put so much effort into building their magazine and blog these last 7 years but I'm sure it was the right decision.
We've been a long time supporter of Urban Velo and have advertised in their magazine all the way back to 2010. I've personally seen Brad and Jeff at cycling events from San Francisco to Philly and many places in between since we launched Fyxation in 2009. Urban Velo was a great small magazine that focused on all aspects of urban cycling from messenger life to alleycats and we'll definitely miss reading each issue.
Below is a little tribute we put together showing a collection of the issues where we were we had the back cover ad spot on Urban Velo. It's quite the trip down memory lane for us as well. Good luck Brad and Jeff.
When it came time to build our Blackhawk race rig we knew we would need a light but durable wheel set, so we turned to Sarma and Industry Nine. With a frameset weight of 4lb, the Blackhawk is ready for trails or race day and with carbon rims from Sarma and I9 fat bike hubs we were able to get the complete build down to 23lb....
The long awaited 45NRTH Dillinger 5 fat bike tire is now in stock and with the leaves falling fast it couldn't have come at a better time. With snow comes ice and having studded tires in Wisconsin is almost a must. Having the room to fit 5 inch tires on our new Blackhawk frame...
