Bicycle Blog

Earlier in the year our friend Kirk from cycling blog Forward Set reached out to us because he had just moved to Los Angeles from Florida and was looking for a bike that he could use as his daily commuter and for making deliveries while working as a bike messenger.  We had just launched our Quiver 1x10 which we feel is a perfect commuter for our local market here in Milwaukee but we were interested to see how it could handle the streets of LA.

Below is a quick review that Kirk after having spent a few months with his Quiver...

In June 2009 when the very first Session 700 tire rolled off the production line, we had no idea what we were getting into.  We set out with a goal of introducing a durable, colorful and stylish bicycle tire into a very crowded market and didn't really know where things would take us.  At the time, we started off with one size tire (700x28c) that was available in 5 colors - black, white, green, orange and pink....

A few weeks ago Nick and I packed up our gear and flew out to California for the annual Sea Otter event in Monterey, CA.  Sea Otter is a 4 day long celebration of all things cycling and what used to be a weekend gathering of hard core cyclists has turned into a huge event with thousands of spectators, hundreds of companies showing off their latest gear and lots and lots of bike races.

We flew into San Francisco and hit the road to visit a few of the local bikes shops in the Bay Area that support Fyxation.  Right after college I lived in San Francisco for 3 years and was the DeWalt guy for the Bay Area and other parts of Northern California...

Here at Fyxation we pride ourselves in developing each one of our bikes in house. We strive to blend fit, performance and style so that each new model is unique to Fyxation.  Many of our competitors have no idea how to actually design a bike themselves and simply rely on their factories to design the bikes.  While this is a quick way to bring a new product to market, it more or less relegates these companies to the US marketers of said designs.  We feel there's something missing from not actually designing the bikes you sell and prefer to do things here in Milwaukee rather than simply outsourcing every aspect of the bike to someone that's thousands of miles away.

We've been working on bringing our new Pixel Singlespeed to market for quite some time and we feel we've developed the perfect singlespeed bike...

We never thought we'd be posting about Fyxation products being on display at an event called BrewExpo America. Then again, 12 months ago we had no idea we'd be selling a complete line of handmade leather bicycle accessories either.  So it's fitting that our Tannery Collection will be on display at next week's craft beer show in Denver, CO in the booth of our new friends from Innate Gear.

Innate Gear makes a line of cool accessories for the active lifestyle and at BrewExpo America and the Craftbeer Conference...

It's almost Spring here in Milwaukee and that can only mean one thing.  The Wheel and Sprocket annual Bike Expo Sale is coming at ya.  This once a year weekend sale is so big that's actually held at the State Fair Park. Thousands of bikes will be sold from names like Surly, Salsa, Trek and of course yours truly, Fyxation.  Wheel and Sprocket is Wisconsin's largest bike shop and is actually the shop where Nick here at Fyxation worked at back in the day to help pay his way through college...

We recently came across a new campaign on Kickstarter for a product called Cogly and we'd thought we'd give them a plug here.  Cogly was developed by a group of cyclists based out of Minnesota where like here in Milwaukee, the dirt, debris and salt can really do a number on your bike.  Cogly is a simple tool that let's clean your chain, chainrings and cassette without having to use multiple brushes or rags to get into those hard to reach spaces.  Designed with a ergonomic curved handle, the Cogly let's you...

It's always great to see a fellow company in our industry growing and doing great things. YNOT Cycle is based in Toronto and make a great line of backpacks, shoulder bags, pedal straps and a few other cycling related accessories.  They've really been growing the last few years and just opened a flagship store in downtown toronto.  Here's a bit of info from their Vimeo page and a quick video recap of their launch party...
