Fyxation MKE Fat Bike Group Ride
The snow may be late in coming but that didn't stop us from enjoying today's Fyxation MKE Fat Ride. There was plenty of sand and single track to ride along the Third Coast and Blackhawk demos were on hand to go around!
With miles of beach, bike path and trails we're a little bit spoiled for fat bike riding in MKE, even with the snow a bit late in coming. Today's ride started out in the historic Bayview neighborhood on Milwaukee's South Side. Bayview is home to quaint homes, progressive restaurants and has a strong nautical culture. Our ride host was Kneisler's Whitehouse, whose history reaches back to 1891 and was a key watering hole to 19th century mill workers.
From the Whitehouse we followed Lake Michigan south through some of Milwaukee County Park's best bike paths.
The best thing about this ride is that it's very inclusive and fun for riders of any level. Although the route is well planned out, the combination of local and out of town riders often leads to diversions, which was evident today.
While one group decided to drop in and take the beach, another contingent stayed above the bluff and hit the single track and bike path which provided amazing vistas of Lake Michigan. Tight and twisty is the only way to describe these trails, and with temps set to drop in the coming weeks speed will only be governed by your ability to thread the trees on the frozen single track.
We were able to finish the ride just before the Green Bay Packers were set to kick off, which in this town is definitely a requirement in ride planning. However, the best part of the ride is always enjoying the company of friends new and old.
So until the next time we ride together, enjoy the holiday's and let's all cross our fingers for a little (or a lot) of snow!
